Who are you?

In this B2 ESL lesson plan, students will analyze how identity shapes personal stories, using advanced language to describe themselves beyond simple labels.

Warm-up: 

The lesson starts with an exercise where students identify which statements about identity are true.

Video: 

Students watch a video titled “Identity Crisis: Why Defining Yourself by Your Career Is a Problem.” After viewing, they identify which aspects were mentioned.

Exercises: 

Students complete gap-fill sentences using a word bank. Then, they draw cards and discuss how people tend to identify themselves.

Reading: 

Students read a short text about how people define themselves, followed by comprehension questions.

Discussion: 

Students explore thought-provoking questions about identity.
