In this C2 lesson, students will learn about why children’s drawings matter and new vocabulary related to the value of art and creativity. This lesson will also focus on getting students to discuss their opinions on the value of art and whether age makes a difference in appreciating art.
Warm-up
The lesson starts with a discussion related to types of art, children’s artwork, and the student’s favorite artist.
Video: Why children’s drawings matter
Before watching a video, the student learns the vocabulary that will help them understand the video better (fidelity, wonky, immaculate, etc.).
After matching the new words with their meanings, the student watches the video Why children’s drawings matter and answers the questions based on the video. They practice using the new vocabulary by completing sentences with the missing words. Next, they decide if the statements based on the video are true or false.
Reading: World Art Day 2021
The student reads brief biographies of art prodigies who had their artwork displayed at World Art Day Festival. Based on what they learned about the young artists, the student answers the questions about their paintings.
