The AI Wake-Up Call

This C2 reading practice lesson takes students through a complete exploration of AI topics, starting with vocabulary building, then moving to reading comprehension exercises about AI policy and gender issues, and finishing with a critical thinking task about AI’s impact on society. 

Warm-up

The lesson kicks off with students revealing the hints to guess the word behind the associations. 

Video

Students watch a video “Apple Isn’t Even at the AI Party, Ross Gerber Says.” After viewing, they examine a list of key points and select which ones were mentioned in the video. This task helps improve listening skills and sparks conversation.

Reading

Next, students read three articles: “Europe is Missing the AI Boat – And That’s a Problem,” “AI Won’t Wait for Your Ethics” and “AI agents are revolutionizing administration for businesses.” For each of the texts, there are follow-up exercise; talking about the text’s main message using prompt phrases provided, filling gaps in sentences or answering questions based on the text.

Discussion

To wrap up the lesson, students are asked to use their critical thinking skills while analyzing the risks and benefits of the AI revolution.
