Is Higher Education Still Worth It?

In this C1-level lesson plan, students will explore whether higher education remains a worthwhile investment in today’s rapidly changing economy.

Warm-up:

Students choose which claims about higher education are true and which are false. They also answer a series of questions about the topic of the lesson.

Video: 

Students watch an informative video titled “Is it still worth going to university?” After viewing, they answer questions based on the video content.

Exercises:

Language skills are reinforced through various activities. Students choose all the words that have the same or very similar meaning to the word ‘tuition’. In the following exercise, they match words and phrases to their definitions. Next, they imagine a situation and decide how they would act if they found themselves in it. In the fourth exercise, the learners fill gaps in sentences to complete definitions. Finally, they choose which adjective best fits each sentence.

Students discuss several thought-provoking questions on the subject matter.
