Is crypto here to stay?

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are for students to:

• – assess the long-term role of cryptocurrency in global finance while exploring blockchain technology and digital currency trends;
• – improve their advanced English language skills through synonym identification, word replacement exercises, error correction, and reading comprehension activities;
• – actively engage in analytical discussions about cryptocurrency’s future after watching a video about blockchain technology’s permanence.

In this C1-level ESL lesson plan, students will assess the long-term role of cryptocurrency in global finance using advanced English vocabulary.

Warm-up: 

Students look at a selection of statements and discuss which ones they think are true.

Video: 

Students watch the video called “Reddit co-founder: Blockchain technology is here to stay.” and complete a gap-fill exercise based on the content.

Exercises: 

In the first exercise, students think of synonyms for selected words in a text. 

Then, they practice their paraphrasing skills by replacing parts of the sentences with appropriate words from a selection. 

In the third exercise, students focus on their accuracy by identifying mistakes in sentences.

Reading: 

Students analyze a text about the future of cryptocurrencies and answer in-depth questions about it.

Discussion: 

Students unscramble and discuss a quote about cryptocurrencies with the teacher using appropriate language covered in the lesson.
