This intermediate lesson practices reading comprehension, using topic-specific vocabulary, discussing opinions and writing.
Reading:
The lesson starts with students reading a short text on the topic of the lesson and answering questions about it. In the second part of this section the learners look at a couple of catchy headlines and analyze them critically.
Vocabulary:
Students are introduced to new vocabulary. Later they complete sentences using words from a box.
Video:
Students watch a video titled “5 tips to improve your critical thinking”. After watching the video, they answer comprehension questions about it.
Exercises:
The learners find mistakes in sentences and correct them. In the following exercise, they complete sentences with correct prepositions. In the third exercise, the learners complete sentences with their own ideas. In the fourth exercise, they examine a short case study and answer questions based on it. In the last part of this section, the students verbalize their reasoning aloud as they critically evaluate a claim.
Writing:
The students pick a topic and write a short paragraph about it.
Discussion:
Learners discuss a number of questions with their teacher. In the last part of this lesson they engage in a mini debate.
