In this Intermediate lesson plan, the student will learn and practice using vocabulary to talk about data, cookies, and digital footprint. They will also get to practice modal verbs must, might, could, and can’t.
Warm-up
The lesson starts with an activity in which the student puts scattered words together to make words/phrases (pop-up, personal data, web browser, etc.).
Reading: Digital footprint
The student reads a short text about digital footprint and answers the reading comprehension questions.
Video: How ads follow you around the internet
Before watching a video, the student gets familiar with the new words which will be mentioned in the video (cookies, inventor, retain, etc.) and uses them to complete sentences. Then, they sort out the pros and cons of cookies.
Next, they watch How ads follow you around the internet and learn how cookies work. They answer the video comprehension questions and decide if the statements based on the video are true or false.
They complete the chart with the information they think a company website should include in its privacy policy.
Grammar: Modal verbs for deduction
The student learns about modal verbs must, might, could, and can’t, and practices using them in sentences. Their knowledge of modals is then tested in a ‘true or false’ exercise referring to the rules of their use.
The lesson ends with a few questions to sum up the new content.
