The Party Survival Guide

This proficiency lesson explores the unwritten rules of party conversation through vocabulary, reading, and real-life role-play.

Warm-up:

The lesson starts with students considering various party scenarios and explaining how they would behave if confronted with them. In the next exercise, they learn how to say things without coming across as too direct.

Video:

Students watch a video titled “How to Approach Strangers at a Party”. After watching the video, they answer comprehension questions about it.

Exercises:

The learners fill gaps in sentences using words from a box. In the next exercise, they match words and phrases with their definitions. In the last part of this section, the students play a game of pick a card.

Discussion:

Learners discuss several socializing rules. They also talk about the best and worst socializer they know.
