Lesson overview

In this B2 ESL lesson, students will build vocabulary for describing extreme heat and its effects on the body, while practicing reading, listening, and discussion. This lesson explores how heat waves affect people and how everyone can stay safe in hot weather. 

 

Warm-up:

Students use provided words to create sentences about extreme heat.

 

Video:

Students watch a video titled “Deadly heat wave grips Europe as most French homes lack AC.” After watching the video, they answer a few questions.

 

Exercises:

The students sort words into groups by meaning. In the next two, they match words and idioms with their meanings. Finally, the students complete sentences with phrasal verbs.

 

Reading:

Learners read a short text and then answer questions about it.

 

Writing:

Students write a short message advising a friend on how to handle a heat wave.

 

Discussion:

The students discuss a number of topics related to the lesson.
