In this Upper-Intermediate ESL lesson plan, students are introduced to useful vocabulary related to financial services. The lesson strengthens their active vocabulary while improving overall communication skills by introducing some idioms commonly used by native speakers
Warm-up:
Students think of which types of banks they know, and the English words for them
Video:
Students are asked to identify key information in a video titled “Banking Explained – Money and Credit.”
Exercises:
Students complete a gap-fill exercise, using “either” or “neither”.
In the second exercise, they use a common idiom to paraphrase different sentences within context.
Reading:
Students read a short text about banks, before answering some comprehension questions to confirm their understanding.
Discussion:
Students practice expressing their opinions in English by discussing thought-provoking questions about the topic. Students are encouraged to use the new target language from the lesson.
