Rise of the robots: friend or foe?

Lesson overview

In this intermediate ESL lesson, students practice vocabulary related to robots, artificial intelligence, and technology, as well as speaking skills: giving opinions, agreeing, and disagreeing.

 

Warm-up:

The lesson starts with students reading a short conversation and answering questions about it.

 

Video:

Students watch a video titled “Robots Race Against Humans in Half-Marathon in China.” After watching the video, they complete gaps in sentences based on the content of the video.

 

Exercises:

The learners sort adjectives into correct groups. In the following exercise, they fill gaps in sentences with the appropriate verbs. In the third exercise, the students match words to their meanings. Finally, they reveal cards that describe different situations and explain if they would feel comfortable with a robot in these scenarios. 

 

Discussion:

Learners discuss several questions related to the topic of the lesson.
