Lesson overview

The main goals of this lesson plan are to:

  • – develop vocabulary and spoken expression on the topic of jobs and the balance between work and life, with an emphasis on working multiple jobs
  • – participate in sentence creation, word completion and categorizing exercises to practice English language skills
  • – watch a brief film called “Some Americans Have Multiple Full-Time Jobs Amid Remote Working”. Students answer questions related to the short video.

 

 

This B1, Intermediate-level English language lesson allows students to increase their vocabulary and oral expression on the topic of jobs and work-life balance. The main focus of this lesson is the subject of working multiple jobs.

 

Warm-up

During the Warm-up, the lesson begins with an activity in which students arrange words to make new sentences

 

Video

Students watch a short video called “Some Americans Have Multiple Full Time Jobs Amid Remote Working.” Afterwards, they work on a sentence completion exercise to check their comprehension of the video. 

 

Exercises

In the first exercise, students make work-related phrases by completing words with the missing letters. In the second activity, they select phrases that refer to emotional responses. In the last practice, students put phrases into categories, based on meaning. 

 

Reading

During the reading comprehension, students read a short passage about over-working. Then, they answer questions to check their understanding of the meaning and detail in the text. 

 

Discussion

In the last stage of the lesson, students discuss a quote related to the topic of the lesson.
