In this B2 ESL lesson plan, students will analyze how identity shapes personal stories, using advanced language to describe themselves beyond simple labels.

 

Warm-up: 

Students use their existing knowledge to identify which statements about identity they think are true.

 

Video: 

Students identify the key information in a video titled “Identity Crisis: Why Defining Yourself by Your Career Is a Problem.”

 

Exercises: 

Students complete gap-fill exercises using a word bank. In the second activity, they draw cards and discuss how they think people tend to identify themselves.

 

Reading: 

Students read a short text about how people define themselves, then check their understanding with some comprehension questions.

 

Discussion: 

Students express their ideas while discussing thought-provoking questions about identity.
