When Someone Deflects

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – explore different aspects of deflecting behavior from workplace dynamics to personal relationships;
• – practice language skills through error correction, word completion exercises, reading comprehension, and discussion abilities;
• – watch a video about nobody wanting to help you move and analyze deflecting behaviors through scenario analysis.

In this B1 level lesson plan, students will explore different aspects of deflecting behavior, from workplace dynamics to personal relationships. 

Warm-up 

Students analyze a complex situation and discuss what they would do when faced with such a scenario.

Video 

Students watch an informative video titled “Nobody Wants to Help You Move.” After viewing, they complete a matching exercise connecting sentence beginnings with appropriate endings based on the video content.

Exercises 

Language skills are reinforced through various activities. Students find and correct mistakes in sentences. In the second exercise they complete words by filling in missing letters to create alternative expressions for deflecting behaviors.

Reading 

Students read a text about the deflecting behaviors and answer questions about the text to test reading comprehension.

Discussion 

Students discuss several thought-provoking questions on the subject matter.
