Trust yourself

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – develop advanced vocabulary and strategies for navigating situations that require balancing instinct with analysis;
• – practice reading comprehension, discussion skills, expression analysis, sentence rewriting, and critical thinking abilities;
• – watch a video about why you shouldn’t second guess your decisions and explore techniques for building trust in intuition.

In this C2 level lesson plan, students, through reading, discussion and practice exercises, develop advanced vocabulary and strategies for navigating situations that require balancing instinct with analysis.

Warm-up 

Students analyze two scenarios and discuss how they demonstrate the balance between rational thinking and trusting your instincts.

Video 

Students watch an informative video titled “Why You Shouldn’t Second Guess Your Decisions.” After viewing, they complete a matching exercise connecting sentence beginnings with appropriate endings based on the video content.

Exercises 

Language skills are reinforced through various activities. Students analyze expressions and explain their underlying meanings. In the second exercise, they use given phrases to rewrite the sentences. Lastly, they find the phrases in a given text that correspond to provided definitions.

Reading 

Students read a text about the risks of overreliance on data and answer questions about the text to test reading comprehension.

Discussion 

Students explore different techniques for building trust in their intuition.
