The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are for students to:
- – explore the meaning of self-worth, confidence and personal development concepts using appropriate basic English vocabulary;
- – practice their English speaking skills after acquiring useful language through synonym identification, word replacement, error correction, and reading comprehension activities;
- – discuss personal confidence after watching a video about wellbeing for children which focuses on confidence and self-esteem.
In this A2-level ESL lesson plan, students will explore the meaning of self-worth through basic English vocabulary and speaking practice.
Warm-up:
Students look at statements and discuss which ones they think are true.
Video:
Students watch “Wellbeing For Children: Confidence And Self-Esteem.” and complete a gap-fill exercise based on the video.
Exercises:
First, students find synonyms for selected words from a text.
In the second exercise, they work on their paraphrasing skills by replacing parts of the sentences with appropriate words from a selection.
Finally, students work on their accuracy skills by identifying errors in a selection of sentences.
Reading:
Students analyze a text about self-worth, then answer some comprehension questions to confirm their understanding.
Discussion:
Students unscramble and discuss a quote about confidence with the teacher, using relevant words and expressions from the lesson.
