The power of positivity

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – broaden vocabulary on the theme of positivity while exploring the psychological and social benefits of positive thinking;
• – practice advanced grammar skills through unreal time constructions, sentence transformation, reading comprehension, and discussion abilities;
• – watch a video about the power of positivity and engage in categorization activities with positivity-related phrases and concepts.

In this Advanced ESL lesson plan, the goal is to broaden students’ vocabulary on the theme of positivity. The lesson also introduces and practices the uses of unreal time.

Warm-up
The lesson starts with an exercise where students organize words to create sentences.

Video
Students will watch a video named “The Power of Positivity.” Post-viewing, they will fill gaps in sentences to check for comprehension.

Grammar
Focus here is introducing unreal time. Examples are given to aid understanding.

Exercises
In this part of the lesson, students will transform sentences using unreal time. They will also complete words with missing letters to create positivity-related phrases.

In the last exercise, the students will organize positivity-related phrases into the correct categories.

Reading
Students will read a short text about the power of positivity, followed by a Q&A session.

Discussion
To wrap up, students will discuss a famous quote.
