The history of coffee

In this Advanced ESL lesson plan, the goal is to broaden students’ vocabulary on the theme of coffee. The lesson also introduces and practices the uses of complex noun phrases.

Warm-up
The lesson starts with an exercise where students organize words to create sentences. 

Video
Students will watch a video named “How humanity got hooked on coffee.” Post-viewing, they will fill gaps in sentences to check for comprehension.

Grammar
Focus here is introducing complex noun phrases. Examples are given to aid understanding.

Exercises
In this part of the lesson, students will transform sentences using complex noun phrases. They will also complete words with missing letters to create coffee-related phrases. 

In the last exercise, the students will organize coffee-related phrases into the correct categories.

Reading
Students will read a short text about the history of coffee, followed by a Q&A session.

Discussion
To wrap up, students will discuss a famous quote.
