The FatFire movement

Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

    • – learn specific language and expressions related to investment and business as they study FATFIRE movement’s approach to aggressive financial independence and retiring early.
    • – to use advanced, useful vocabulary about bad financial decision-making through a range of exercises, including gap-fill exercises and discussions.
    • – to enhance their understanding of a particular topic by watching a video called “‘FatFIRE’ Movement Encourages People to Acquire Wealth and Retire Early”. Students must identify the key money strategies presented in the video.

 

 

This C2-level English lesson helps students to grow their range of English vocabulary even further through the exploration of the FATFIRE movement. Students gain specific financial terminology around the topics of investment, money saving and business

  

Warm-up

During the warm up, students select vocabulary related to the topic of frugal lifestyles. 

 

Video

During the listening comprehension, students watch a short video called “‘FatFire’ Movement Encourages People To Acquire Wealth And Retire Early.” After the short film, they test their understanding by selecting which money strategies were referred to in the video.

 

Exercises

In the first practice section, students must select the ‘toxic’ or bad financial decisions. In the second practice, they complete a gap-fill exercise. In the third exercise, they must select phrases for the right categories. 

 

Reading

In the reading section, students read a passage about the FatFire movement. The learners do a question-and-answer activity to test their understanding of the text and language. 

 

Discussion

In the final section, students discuss the meaning of a quote related to the topic of the lesson.
