The economics of luxury

In this Advanced ESL lesson, students will explore the economics of luxury goods through a number of interactive exercises.

Warm-Up

Students will look at a graphic and answer questions.

Video

Students will watch a short video titled “Why Hyatt Is Choosing Luxury Over Affordability.” After watching, students will answer questions to check for comprehension.

Exercises

Students will engage in a series of language activities to reinforce their understanding of lesson related vocabulary and concepts. They will start by completing sentences using provided words in a gap-filling exercise. Next, they’ll practice word replacement, substituting words in sentences using a given list of alternatives. The third activity involves matching words with their antonyms to expand vocabulary. 

Reading

Students will read a short text about luxury goods and answer questions about the text.

Discussion

By the end of the lesson, students will answer questions to spark a discussion.
