Shrinkflation

The main goals of this ESL lesson are:

This upper-intermediate lesson plan covers the topic of hidden inflation through vocabulary exercises and reading comprehension practice.

Warm-up

To get things started students pick words that are connected to inflation.

Video

The students watch a video “How We are Getting Ripped Off by Hidden Inflation.” After watching the video students pick which strategies were mentioned in the video.

Exercises

In the first exercise the students are asked to identify misleading statements. In the following exercise they fill gaps to form two-word phrases related to the topic of the lesson.

Reading

Students read a text about shrinkflation and answer questions to test reading comprehension.

Discussion

Students discuss a famous quote.
