Should We Protect Kids from Social Media?

Lesson overview

In this B2 lesson, students examine whether children should be protected from social media by analyzing risks like addiction, cyberbullying, and harmful content and comparing them to the benefits of these platforms.

Warm-up:

The lesson begins with students completing the gaps in a number of words with missing letters and creating a new word from the first letters.

Video:

Students watch a video: “Why did Australia ban social media for kids under 16?” They then answer questions based on the video content.

Exercises:

Students strengthen their language skills through matching words to the ones with the opposite meaning. In the second exercise, they look at a text and find the words with the meanings that are listed below. In the third exercise, the students replace words in italics with those provided in a word bank. Next, they match words with their definitions. In the fifth exercise, the students change words into nouns or adjectives to complete sentences. Finally, they complete a list of sentences so that they are true for them.

Discussion:

Students match words with opposite meanings and answer questions related to the lesson content.
