Quiet Quitting: The Silent Workplace Rebellion

Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – practice intermediate vocabulary,
  • – improve writing skills,
  • – improve listening and discussion skills.

In this B2 ESL lesson students build vocabulary, read about the quiet quitting trend, and write their own balanced argument on whether it’s a fair response to overwork or a risky move for your professional future.

Warm-up Activity:

The session starts with a fun word unjumbling exercise using quiet quitting vocabulary. This gets students thinking about the topic while reviewing key words they’ll need for the lesson.

Video Section:

Students watch an interesting video called “How ‘Quiet Quitting’ Became The Next Phase Of The Great Resignation” and answer follow-up questions. This helps practice listening skills.

Vocabulary Exercises:

This part includes a word family exercise where students fill in missing words. The vocabulary focuses on workplace topics and challenges students to use their knowledge of how English words are formed.

Reading Comprehension:

Students read a short text about quiet quitting and answer questions to check their understanding. This section tests both basic comprehension and deeper thinking about the topic.

Writing Task:

For the writing section, students write a short text about the pros and cons of the quiet quitting phenomenon. This helps them practice organizing their thoughts and presenting balanced arguments.

Discussion:

The lesson ends with a discussion based on a graph. This gives students a chance to practice speaking while sharing their opinions about what they’ve learned.
