In this C2 lesson plan, the student will learn how to pronounce and spell tricky words correctly.

 

Warm-up

As a warm-up activity, the student tries to pronounce tricky words (squirrel, lieutenant, quinoa, etc.). 

 

Video: This man can pronounce every word in the dictionary

Before they watch the video, the student gets familiar with new vocabulary (colonel, regardless, enormity, etc.) and practices using them in sentences.

They watch the video called This man can pronounce every word in the dictionary and decide if the statements based on the video are true or false.

 

Reading: Origins and meanings of tricky words

The student reads about the origins and meanings of the words regardless, schwa, enormity, and colonel, and answers the reading comprehension questions.

 

The lesson ends with a section of wrap-up questions.
