Playing hard to get

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – expand vocabulary related to emotional and psychological reactions in relationships through synonym selection exercises and definition matching activities;
• – improve comprehension skills by watching a video about the appeal of unavailable people and reading a text about self-sabotaging love, followed by targeted questions about both materials;
• – develop critical thinking and speaking abilities through word reorganization to create meaningful quotes about love and engaging in discussions about personal thoughts on relationships and emotional patterns.

In this C2 lesson plan, students will practice vocabulary related to emotional and psychological reactions in relationships.

Warm-up 

The lesson begins with students picking the correct synonym for certain words.

Video 

Students will view a video titled “The Charms of Unavailable People.” After watching the video, they will answer questions to check for comprehension.

Exercises 

Students will learn new vocabulary by matching terms with their definitions.

Reading 

In this part, the students will read a short text about why sometimes people self-sabotage love. After that, they will answer questions to the text.

Discussion 

The lesson concludes with reorganizing words to create a quote about love. The students are asked to share their thoughts about the quote.
