The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – watch a video about “Can Universal Basic Income Help Society?” and answer comprehension questions.

In this Upper-Intermediate ESL lesson, students will explore the concept of Universal Basic Income while developing their English language skills. This lesson will focus on expanding vocabulary related to economics and social policy, practicing reading comprehension with texts about UBI, and engaging in discussions to improve speaking skills.

Warm-Up

Students will look at a graphic and answer questions.

Video

Students will watch a short video titled “Can universal basic income help society?” After watching, students will answer questions to check for comprehension.

Exercises

Students will engage in a series of language activities to reinforce their understanding of UBI-related vocabulary and concepts. They will start by completing sentences using provided words in a gap-filling exercise. Next, they’ll practice word replacement, substituting words in sentences using a given list of alternatives. The third activity involves matching words with their antonyms to expand vocabulary. Lastly, students will adapt a short text by replacing highlighted words with options from a list.

Reading

Students will read a short text about universal basic income and answer questions about the text.

Discussion

By the end of the lesson, students will answer questions to spark a discussion.
