Lifestyle creep

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – introduce vocabulary related to personal finance, consumer behavior, and lifestyle choices through engaging language activities;

• – practice B1-level skills with synonym generation, sentence transformation, phrase categorization, and error correction;

• – watch a video about “Beware of ‘Lifestyle Creep’: Why You Shouldn’t Suddenly Spend More When You Earn More” and answer comprehension questions.

In this B1 ESL lesson plan, students will explore the concept of lifestyle creep through a variety of language activities. This lesson aims to introduce vocabulary related to personal finance, consumer behavior, and lifestyle choices.

Warm-Up

Students will come up with synonyms for words in the text.

Video

Students will watch a short video titled “Beware of ‘lifestyle creep’: why you shouldn’t suddenly spend more when you earn more.” After watching, students will answer questions to check for comprehension.

Exercises

Students will replace parts of sentences with given words. In the second exercise, they will sort phrases into correct categories. Lastly, they will cross out incorrect words in sentences.

Reading

Students will read a short text about lifestyle creep and answer questions about the text.

Discussion

At the end of the lesson, students will answer questions to facilitate a discussion.
