The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

- – practice intermediate-level English language skills with a range of activities, including sentence transformation, error correction, phrase categorization and synonym generation exercises
- – develop listening comprehension with a short video called “Beware of ‘Lifestyle Creep’: Why You Shouldn’t Suddenly Spend More When You Earn More” and answer follow-up comprehension questions.
In this B1 ESL lesson plan, students will explore the concept of lifestyle creep through a variety of language activities. This lesson aims to introduce vocabulary related to personal finance, consumer behavior, and lifestyle choices.
Warm-Up
In the warm-up, students brainstorm synonyms for words in the passage.
Video
Learners watch a short video called “Beware of ‘lifestyle creep’: why you shouldn’t suddenly spend more when you earn more.” After viewing, students respond to questions to check and consolidate their understanding of the video.
Exercises
In the first exercise, students do a sentence improvement exercise with provided words. In the second activity, they sort expressions into the right categories. In the last exercise, they eliminate wrong words from sentences.
Reading
In the reading comprehension, students read a short passage related to lifestyle creep. This is followed with a question and answer section to allow students to check their comprehension of meaning and detail.
Discussion
In the last part of the lesson, students respond to questions in order to begin a discussion about the lesson topic.
