Life Lessons from Millionaires

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – develop C1 level vocabulary,
• – enhance students’ advanced speaking skills,
• – improve discussion skills.

This advanced speaking lesson explores the topic of becoming a millionaire through diverse speaking activities including discussions, debates, role-plays, and critical analysis of get-rich culture.

Warm-up:

The lesson starts with students discussing their thoughts and experiences with getting rich.

Video:

Students watch a video called “Money Lessons From Self-Made Millionaires Who Retired In Their 30s.” Afterward, they discuss the key ideas from the video using helpful phrases and expressions.

Speaking Activities:

Students read statements about millionaire mindsets and practice agreeing or disagreeing while explaining their opinions. They then choose three statements and try to argue the opposite viewpoint. Next, learners share their different paths to wealth using guided prompts. Students also sort wealth-related vocabulary into categories and explain their choices. Finally, they discuss various scenarios using provided conversation expressions.

Discussion:

The lesson concludes with students reading about get-rich culture on social media and discussing this cultural phenomenon.
