This upper-intermediate lesson develops vocabulary to discuss work, identity, career, and professional values and workplace idioms.
Warm-up:
The lesson starts with students discussing a series of idioms related to work. In the second part of this section students look at statements about work and identity, and discuss them with the teacher.
Video:
Students watch a video titled “Identity Crisis: Why Defining Yourself by Your Career Is a Problem”. After watching the video, they answer a few questions related to the video.
Exercises:
The learners match nouns with their most natural verb collocation. In the next part students use prepositions given in a box to fill gaps in sentences. In the third exercise, they rewrite sentences using provided words. Next, the learners sort a number of phrases into correct columns. In the last two exercises, the students match phrasal verbs and idioms to their correct definitions.
Discussion:
Learners complete sentences so that they are true to them. Later they read a number of quotes and discuss them with the teacher.
