How to be confident

Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – expand vocabulary related to confidence and self-assurance through definition matching exercises and picture description activities;
  • – introduce and practice compound nouns through example analysis and word combination exercises to create new compound forms;
  • – improve comprehension and discussion skills by watching a video about building confidence, reading a related text, and engaging in conversations about the attributes of confident people.

 

 

In this Upper-Intermediate lesson plan, students will practice vocabulary related to being confident and become more comfortable with using compound nouns.

 

Warm-up 

The students look at pictures and connect them with their descriptions.

 

Video 

Students will view a video titled “How to be confident.” After watching the video, they will answer questions to check for comprehension.

 

Grammar

This segment introduces compound nouns with examples to illustrate their use.

 

Exercises 

In this part of the lesson plan, the students will be asked to create compound nouns out of word combinations.

Students will also learn new vocabulary by matching terms with their definitions.

 

Reading 

In this part, the students will read a short text about being confident and answer a set of questions related to the text.

 

Discussion 

The lesson concludes with students discussing attributes of confident people.
