Going off…

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – expand vocabulary related to emotional and psychological reactions in relationships through synonym selection exercises and definition matching activities;
• – improve comprehension skills by watching a video about why people distance themselves from those who like them and reading a text about turning away from love, followed by targeted questions about both materials;
• – develop critical thinking and speaking abilities through word reorganization to create meaningful quotes about accepting love and engaging in discussions about personal thoughts on relationships and emotional patterns.

In this C2 lesson plan, students will practice vocabulary related to emotional and psychological reactions in relationships.

Warm-up 

The lesson begins with students picking the correct synonym for certain words.

Video 

Students will view a video titled “Why We Go Off People Who Like Us.” After watching the video, they will answer questions to check for comprehension.

Exercises 

Students will learn new vocabulary by matching terms with their definitions.

Reading 

In this part, the students will read a short text about why sometimes people turn away from love. After that, they will answer questions to the text.

Discussion 

The lesson concludes with reorganizing words to create a quote about accepting love. The students are asked to share their thoughts about the quote.
