Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

    • – learn specific words to describe diamonds, their characteristics and value factors
    • – use vocabulary about the diamond industry through interactive exercises
    • – learn about the future of the diamond industry with a short video and follow-up questions

 

 

In this Advanced English language lesson, students will learn new vocabulary to explain and discuss the diamond industry. 

 

Warm-Up

Students brainstorm synonyms for vocabulary in the passage. 

 

Video

Learners watch a short video called “Are lab-grown diamonds the future?” This is followed up with questions to consolidate vocabulary learned in the video. 

 

Exercises

In the first exercise, students categorize phrases related to the factors that influence the value of a diamond. In the second exercise, learners play a game called ‘’Two Truths and a Lie’’. 

 

Reading

During the reading comprehension part of the lesson, students read a short text about diamonds and answer questions related to the text.

 

Discussion

During the final stage of the lesson, students rearrange words to create a quote about diamonds and discuss it with the teacher.
