Dark matter

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – expand vocabulary related to astronomy and physics through word organization exercises, phrase completion activities, and categorization tasks;
• – introduce and practice the third conditional through example analysis, sentence transformation exercises, and guided grammar instruction;
• – improve comprehension skills by watching a video about dark matter and dark energy, reading a text on the same topic, and engaging in discussions about scientific concepts and famous quotes.

In this Intermediate ESL lesson plan, the goal is to broaden students’ vocabulary on the theme of astronomy and physics. The lesson also introduces and practices the third conditional.

Warm-up
The lesson starts with an exercise where students organize words to create sentences. 

Video
Students will watch a video named “What is Dark Matter and Dark Energy?” Post-viewing, they will fill gaps in sentences to check for comprehension.

Grammar
Focus here is introducing the third conditional. Examples are given to aid understanding.

Exercises
In this part of the lesson, students will transform sentences into the third conditional. They will also complete words to create astronomy-related phrases. 

In the last exercise, the students will organize physics and astronomy phrases into correct categories.

Reading
Students will read a short text about dark matter, followed by a Q&A session.

Discussion
To wrap up, students will discuss a famous quote.
