Cruise ships

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are for students to:

• – acquire vocabulary related to cruise ships and maritime travel through guided discussions and by using authentic materials;
• – improve their comprehension and discussion skills, by completing an interesting range of activities;
• – express their thoughts on a video about how cruise ships got so big, and to analyze cruise ship industry development through various activities.

In this B2-level ESL lesson plan, students acquire vocabulary related to cruise ships and maritime travel, and practice listening to authentic materials to improve their comprehension skills.

Warm-up:

Students discuss cruise ships by answering some guided questions.

Video: 

Students watch a video called “‘How cruise ships got so big”, and then complete a gap-fill exercise based on the content.

Exercises: 

Students complete a matching exercise, and then work on their grammar skills by completing some sentences using the correct form of given words.

Reading: 

Students read a text about cruise ships, and answer some thought-provoking questions to confirm their understanding.

Discussion: 

Students practice expressing their opinions in English by discussing questions related to cruise ship vacations, using appropriate new language from the lesson.
