Corporate Jargon

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – improve speaking fluency at the C2 level,
• – watch a video about corporate jargon,
• – practice discussion skills.

This proficiency English lesson teaches students common corporate jargon through vocabulary exercises and real workplace scenarios. 

Warm-Up Activity:

The lesson starts with students choosing  which expressions in each pair more effectively communicate the intended message. 

Video:

Students watch an eye-opening video called “What Corporate People Sound Like” that shows what corporate communication sometimes sounds like. After watching, students complete a comprehensive quiz that tests their understanding of the main points and specific details from the video, helping them practice their listening skills. 

Exercises:

The exercise section includes three targeted language activities that reinforce different aspects of English while staying focused on the corporate speak theme. Students begin by completing sentences using provided vocabulary. In the second exercise, they work on word formation by rearranging letters to create verbs commonly used in corporate discussions.

Reading:

Students read an informative text about corporate jargon. After reading, they answer detailed questions that test their reading comprehension.

Discussion:

The lesson concludes with students analyzing several realistic scenarios and describing what they would do in each situation.
