Changing jobs

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – develop job search vocabulary through definition matching exercises and reading about career change concepts;
• – strengthen comprehension skills by watching a video about finding satisfying work and reading a text about career transitions, followed by targeted questions about both materials;
• – cultivate analytical thinking and discussion abilities through evaluating career choices for their pros and cons and engaging in thought-provoking conversations inspired by well-known quotes about work and career satisfaction.

In this C2 ESL lesson plan, learners will expand their vocabulary related to the job search.

Warm-up 

The lesson begins with an engaging activity where students pick a career and discuss the pros and cons of their choices.

Video 

Students will view a video titled “How to Find Satisfying Work.” Afterwards, they will answer questions on the main ideas presented in the video.

Exercises 

Students will learn new words by matching terms to their definitions.

Reading 

The students will read a short text about career change and answer the questions that follow.

Discussion 

The lesson concludes with a thought-provoking discussion inspired by a well-known quote.
