Buy now, pay later

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• • – improve reading comprehension skills related to ‘buy now, pay later’ services. Students will learn essential vocabulary and expressions about debt, payment and credit services.
  • – discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these services through interactive exercises.
  • – boost their listening comprehension with the support of a video about ‘buy now, pay later’ services.

In this C2-level English language lesson, learners will grasp expressions, nuances and language about “buy now, pay later” services. Students will have the chance to investigate the pros and cons of these services, using specific language and phrases.

Warm-Up

During the engage stage of the lesson, learners brainstorm synonyms for words found in the text.

Video

Students practice their listening comprehension with a video about “buy now, pay later” services. This exercise is follow up by a series of listening comprehension questions. 

Exercises

In the first exercise, students must put phrases in the correct category, based on what they have already learned in the lesson. During the second exercise, they play an interactive game called Two Truths and a Lie.

Reading

During the reading comprehension stage, students read and answer questions about “buy now, pay later” services. 

Discussion

The last part of the lesson allows students to create a quote about debt and discuss it with their teacher.
