In this Proficiency ESL lesson, the focus is on broadening students’ vocabulary around dangerous sports and hobbies.

Warm-up

Video

The students will watch a video titled “Underwater Cave Diving | Best Job Ever” and answer the questions that follow.

Exercises

This segment includes a word family with gaps to be filled by the students. The words are related to the topic of the lesson and require an above average knowledge of the appropriate vocabulary.

Reading

This part of the lesson consists of a short text describing some of the less explored aspects of dangerous sports and hobbies. To gauge reading comprehension, the students will answer a series of questions.

Writing

Students are assigned to compose a brief text about societal perceptions of extreme sports.

Discussion

The lesson concludes with a discussion aided by a graph.
