Why do the British drive on the left side of the road?

Lesson overview

In this Intermediate lesson plan, the student will learn vocabulary related to driving history and discuss cultural differences. They will also learn to combine prepositions with verbs.

Warm-up

The lesson starts with associations related to British culture. The student chooses words associated with it. (tea, pub, double-decker, queen).

Video: Why do the British drive on the left side of the road?

Prior to watching a video, the student matches new vocabulary with the correct definitions (e.g. prefer, switch, predate, colonial times, etc.) and use it to complete the sentences. Then, they watch the video Why do the British drive on the left? and answer the questions based on the video. They also decide whether statements related to the video are true or false.

Grammar: Verb + preposition

The student learns how to properly combine verbs with prepositions. They put their knowledge into practice by looking for mistakes in sentences and correcting them using the structure verb + preposition.

The lesson ends with a few wrap-up questions.
