The Magic of Christmas

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

• – introduce intermediate vocabulary,
• – improve discussion skills,
• – practice reading comprehension.

This B1-level lesson plan covers Christmas vocabulary and traditions through matching, fill-in-the-blank, and reading exercises. Students discuss modern holiday pressures and practice using festive expressions in context. 

Warm-up:

Students analyze two Christmas scenarios and discuss them.

Video:

Students watch a music video titled “Last Christmas.” After viewing, they complete a matching exercise connecting sentence beginnings with appropriate endings based on the video content.

Exercises:

Language skills are reinforced through various activities. Students find and correct mistakes in sentences. In the second exercise, they complete words by filling in the missing letters to create expressions related to Christmas. Lastly, they find the phrases in the text that correspond to each of the given definitions.

Reading:

Students read a text about Christmas and answer questions to test reading comprehension. 

Discussion:

Students answer thought-provoking questions about Christmas.
