Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – Explore and learn English vocabulary related to the theme of housing and housing affordability.
  • – Practice and apply English language skills through activities like categorization, writing, and reading comprehension
  • – Utilize a video called, “Vancouver is in a full blown crisis for housing affordability” to engage in English conversation and reading comprehension practice.

 

 

Warm-up

Students will start with a reading comprehension activity about housing to check their prior knowledge.

 

Video

Students will watch a video called “Vancouver is in a full blown crisis for housing affordability”. Afterward during the “we do” part of the lesson, students will practice comprehension through a selection activity.

 

Exercises

Students will practice  and apply the content through categorization and a card activity that asks the student to evaluate hypothetical home purchases.

 

Reading

Students will read a story about a character considering a home purchase. Students will complete comprehension questions during this “you do” part of the English lesson. 

 

Wrap Up

In the final  activity, the student will use a provided word cloud about home purchase for a writing prompt.
